Road. Movies.:A good watch for cinematography!

Vishnu the protagonist is very well played by Abay Deol. The movie starts with showing process of making oil. The protagonist's father being an unsuccessful, yet very hopeful oil maker and seller. Vishnu isnt interested in the family business and the journey begins...

Hats of to the Cinematography. Dev Benegal's direction does the charisma. It is so very appreciable and enjoyable. The screen looks so colourful and live all the time. It has very subtle minimal dialogs.

The background music is soothing and refreshing. By not including unwanted songs, the movies scores good points. Its a very short movie, keeping the audience thinking till the end and passing on subtle messages in the overall flow.

The movie does depicts value of water and how prestigious it is. The movie flows smoothingly showing that life is a journey and we need to move with it. There are times of struggle and happiness, daunting challenges, dead roads and clueless mysteries, unfaithful and unfamiliar people and unthinkable journey. The funda is to enjoy every moment as it comes and move on. Stay focusedon your goal, while you are enjoying the moments on the way to reach your destination.

The 1942 Chevy truck is amazingly cute and wins heart, handsdown.

Star cast is good with each individual justifying their share of screen. Tannishtha Chatterjee is appreciable in her limited role.

My take: A good watch. It has really amazing cinematography and background music. Story is short and sweet, though very different.

Movie Review: Karthik Calling... Give a miss... isnt worth!

With trailors on air and adv in Bombay Times creating enough buzz to make people go and grab 1st day 1st show... the movie isnt good in any aspect. Screeplay, Camera work, lighting, Deepika's acting if I may call it acting, nothing was worth appreciating.

The movie is really slow and takes its own time to build the plot. First 1 hour is over, and there is only one scene of Deepika. Perpetually every frame has Farhan Akhtar. He acted well but it was too much of him. Ram Kapoor was worth appreciation. He did a nice job. I was wondering what Shefali Shah was doing.

The story was good, but didnt have grip. Very slow, forcing to scratch my head every now and then. It could have been a much better movie with a lot better treatment. It could have been a suspense-thriller or unconditional sweet romantic movie. But it failed to find a category for itself niether could it impress audience.

Deepika looked hot no doubt. But she really needs some acting class. She could barely manage to pull her slapping scene. It was more of irritation rather than pulling emotional chord. There were few intimate scenes, but that was looking more of a drama rather than flowing with the story.

Dialogs were average. With strong statements and gripping plot, the movie could have been a lot better. Special mention about lightings. I dont know why, but there was surely some problem with lighting. It wasnt creating an effect, it was intended to. Music is appreciable. "Uff teri adaa" is lovely song but I like the Kailash Kher one more. It was refreshing. Too much of in and around sea link location... Overall worth a miss... better watch on a laptop, if atall you want to update your library.

Final Words: Good music, appreciable songs, concept was good but the execution and final product isnt what you would be wanting to see!

Sherlock Holmes: Nice watch, with some glitches!

First Impression: Sherlock Holmes is a nice movie. The Locations are spellbinding and you do not move from your seats. It has some superb camera work and the screenplay is also apprecible. Full marks to Director Guy Ritchie. Full marks to Robert Downey Jr, he has acted really well only to remind me Alpachino from the movie 88.

Special mentions: Robert Downey Jr delivers with a punch. The actor needs more applauds for taking the movie so smoothly and meeting expectations of the legendary character Sherlock Homes. Jude Law with his subtle acting allows Robert to steal the show, impressing himself too. Sceenplay and camera work is also among the plus points. The location is among special mentions. London bridge is mesmerizing for sure.

Glitches: I found the movie slow at lot of places. Dialogs could have been more powerful at few places.

Final words: A one time watch movie for director Guy Ritchie and actor Robert Downey Jr. Climax is appreciable. Worth the money!

Actor Immpossible!

I am talking about, the new movie in the offering... "Pyaar Impossible." I am actually searching for words thats are not so harsh and yet convey my concern over Uday Chopra's attempt to relaunch himself. I think he should accept that he doesnt fit to be an actor in any sense and is a miserable writer. Just because he is son of Yash Chopra doesnt give him right to torcher the audience.

I have not seen the movie and would not see it even if some one offers me 1000 bucks. I cant tolerate the trailer on television itself. I wonder what made the gorgeous priyanka chopra to sign the movie. I guess instead of Uday if I or any of my friends would have acted in the movie, it surely might have made money. One being priyanka chopra and second being people might have given a try to watch debut actor with her, but Uday chopra!!!... somebody please tell him to stop tarnishing the bollywood industry. Dude look at Anurag Kashyap, Farhan Akhtar... they are trying to take bollwood to new standards and here you are... Hope no more Uday Chopra, Tushar Kapoor, Bobby deol and Upen Patel in coming years!

Gulaal: The cult movie clearly wins the race!

I would have never watched "Gulaal", if my friend would not have forced me and if I would have anything better to do. So, we went to watch the movie... I had all my suspicions... I had seen the trailers twice or thrice and was not very sure what this movie could be about, then... but as the movie began... The first 15 minutes dialog by Kay Kay Menon, and I was convinced... next two hours would be fascinating...

Hats off to Anurag Kashyp for handling such complicated issues so well. Narrating multiple stories, keeping audience engaged, without missing a link and without confusing them, complex stories...simply deleivered with some superub performances... Gulaal is hands down my favourite movie of the year 2009. Pure cult, dark movie with clear message touching delicate social issue without hurting anybody's sentiments, unconventional music, challenging the set norms, cryptic symbolism - "Ardh Narishwar", brutal revolts against the system, importance to poet/ lyrics... I was bowled over by the movie. The impact of the movie is such that, I watched so many movies after Gulaal, and by default my mind starts comparing it with this movie... I think only few movies come close to Gulaal such as Wake up sid, Rocket Singh, Kaminey of the year 2009. There are other like Ek Haseena thi, Omkara... which fall in the same category.

Gulaal is reportedly inspired by the song from Piyasa "Yeh Duniya Agar mil bhi jaye to kya hai" written by Sahir Ludhianvi and the film is dedicated to him and other visionary poets of the Independence era, as expressed by Anurag Kashyap. That particular line is captured in the song Duniya in the movie as well. The movie was conceptualized while release of Paanch and took long time to complete and it was painful seven years for Anurag Kashyap...

Anurag Kashyap has already created his own genre of ‘arrogant cinema’ with candid depiction of emotions- anger, arrogance, frustration, love and agony. Usage of power packed screenplay, intricate detailing, meticulous and meaningful camerawork, rustic locations, use of colours and lights, sharp dialogues with sarcasm and twisted humour gives an unusual blend which otherwise is yet to be displayed to the Indian audience.

Gulaal is easily among the best bollywood movies I have seen till date...
